Yesterday was Tough!

January 29, 2018

Yesterday was tough.

So, today I made sure to include some quiet time for reflection. The goal of self-development and leadership training is not nirvana. Life is comprised of ups and downs and that will never change. Our ability to rebound from the lows, do what we know nourishes us and gets us back to positive action is ultimately the objective. If you're having a 'bad' day (like I did yesterday), take a moment, close your eyes, breathe deeply and simply BE for a few minutes. Then get up and take 1 positive action that will energize you. Making conscious decisions when things go awry rather than falling into auto-pilot makes all the difference.A simple meditation can go a long way towards finding your balance, clarity and strength in difficult situations. How do you start?

  1. Find a quiet place where you will not be interrupted
  2. Get yourself into a comfortable position (both sitting and lying down work)
  3. Set a timer (you can start with as low as 2 to 5 minutes)
  4. Close your eyes and start breathing deeply.
  5. Focus on your breath. You can count your breaths or alternatively repeat a mantra that feels natural to you.
  6. If a thought comes into your mind. Don't worry and don't react to it. Simply watch it and let it wander away.
  7. Focus back on your breath and your mantra.
  8. More thoughts may come to you. Recognize them and let them go.
  9. Focus back on your breath. Repeat.
  10. Once the timer goes off. Open your eyes. Move slowly. Conquer the world! Here's to celebrating the highs and riding the lows with grace and intention.
